Ich arbeite die Gemeinsamkeiten dieser Medienereignisse heraus, unter denen als mögliche Ursachen für das Entstehen kollektiver Emotionen zu vermuten sind: Die Beteiligung prominenter Personen bzw. Elite-Nationen, Abbildung von Konflikten bzw. sozialen Dilemmata, Kämpfe zwischen ‹Gut und Böse›, Nicht-Zugehörigkeit des Ereignisses zum Erwartungshorizont, Verdichtung des Ereignisses im Bild.
Diese fünf Merkmale prüfe ich im Folgenden hinsichtlich der Fallbeispiele auf ihre Relevanz für die Entstehung kollektiver Emotionen. Unter Berücksichtigung von kollektiven Identitäten, Empathie und Mimesis, kollektiver Bedeutungszuschreibung und der Bedeutung von Bildern, komme ich zu folgendem Schluss: Einschneidende und unerwartete Ereignisse erschüttern den Menschen. Werden diese Ereignisse z. B. durch die Medien zusätzlich in ihrer Stärke noch potenziert, so kann es passieren, dass Menschen instinktiv auf archaische Muster zurückgreifen, um diese Ereignisse ein- und ihnen Bedeutung zuordnen zu können. Im gemeinsamen Erleben und Teilen von Gefühlen findet der Mensch eine Entladung und die Möglichkeit sich als Teil einer Gemeinschaft zu erleben.
